From 23 July 2007, any web designer or developer registering a domain name or setting up a hosting package at www.karovahost.com will instantly qualify to receive commission of 10% for domain registration, 20% for virtual hosting and 15% for co-located, managed or dedicated hosting.
The Data Protection Act 1998 states that:
Personal data shall not be transferred to a country or territory outside the European Economic Area unless that country or territory ensures an adequate level of protection for the rights and freedoms of data subjects in relation to the processing of personal data.
As many non-EU countries do not have comprehensive data protection legislation in place, UK companies hosting sites in these countries run the risk of falling foul of both the Data Protection Act 1998 and EU Directive 95/46/EC.
Peter Roxburgh, Managing Director of Karova, said: While we recognise that hosting outside the EU is attractive because it can be very cheap, the wider issue is that the consequences of failing to comply with data protection legislation can be disastrous. We believe that if we reward designers and developers for hosting their clients' sites in the UK, there is less financial incentive for them to have their sites hosted in countries where data protection issues can arise.
